The purpose and goal of Project Management Professional certification program is the development, maintenance, evaluation, promotion, and administration of a rigorous, examination-based, professional certification program of the highest caliber. Project Management Professional can enhance the prospects of desirous Project Managers.  The Project Management Professional is the PM certification granted by the Project Management Institute, where a candidate meets experience prerequisites and passes an examination.

 

The Project Management Professional is the project management credential of choice for numerous industries and companies. By attaining the Project Management Professional credential, your name will be included in the largest and most prestigious group of certified professionals in the project management community.

 

Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification has become the most recognized credential for the practice of the rapidly evolving profession of project management. The Project Management Professional Certification Examination measures the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques that are utilized in the practice of project management. The Project Management Professional Certification examination specifications were established in 1997 after the Project Management Institute completed a job analysis study. The Project Management Professional Certification Examination is comprised of 200 four-option multiple-choice questions that are developed and validated by Project Management Professionals. Examinees must obtain a score of 137 in order to pass the examination. The Project Management Professional Certification examination is reviewed and revised annually to satisfy the examination test specifications and to ensure that each question has a referenced source.

 

The Project Management Professional is a certification program that supports the ongoing professional development of PMPs® as well as the maintenance of Project Management Professional Certification for those already certified. Project Management Professional must accrue a minimum of sixty (60) PDUs every three years. The Project Management Professional Certification cycle begins January 1 of the year following initial certification.

 

The Project Management Professional Certification is a programme run by the PMI USA. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP®), which is a renewable certification for individuals who have been working in project mode for 3 or more years. The PMP® certification is based upon a combination of an exam and an assessment of an individual's project management work experience and their application of the principles set out in the PMBOK® Guide.

 

The Project Management Professional certification is available from the Project Management Institute (PMI), a not-for-profit organization that provides PMs around the world and in many industries, including IT, with project management information, publications, certifications, and support. The PMP is the PMI’s flagship certification and is probably the best-known project management certification in the United States.

 

Before project managers can earn a PMP, they must have experience in six categories:

  • Initiating a project
  • Planning a project
  • Executing a project
  • Controlling a project
  • Closing the project
  • Professional responsibility

 

These categorized experience requirements separate the Project Management Professional certification from other certifications in the IT industry, namely the so-called “paper certs” that require an individual to attend a training class, accomplish some bookwork, and take a certification test. The Project Management Professional certification costs $555 for non-members of the PMI and $405 for members. (A yearly individual PMI membership costs $119 and provides PMs with access to publications and discounts on seminars, among other benefits.) The certification covers general project management information; currently, it does not include a focus on IT project management. Instead, the Project Management Professional certification covers the basic methodologies of each step in the life of a project. Hours of project management experience with IT projects can, however, be applied to the PMP’s pre-qualifications. In addition, hours in one category can, if applicable, overlap into another category.
